Careers Day at Ashby Fields Primary School
Last week, we had the pleasure of attending the very first Careers Day at Ashby Fields Primary School. It was a fantastic event where we were joined by an inspiring mix of professionals from the Police and Fire Service to an Acupuncturist and a Journalist and it turned out to be a brilliant day for everyone involved.
As a local 3D printing business, we believe it’s important to show young people the exciting possibilities of technology and innovation so when we were offered the opportunity to speak to the students about what we do at Daventry 3D Printing, we jumped at the chance.
Throughout the day, we spoke to several enthusiastic classes about how 3D printing works, what it's used for, and how it’s shaping the future of manufacturing, design, medicine, and more. From custom toys and gadgets to engineering, parts for bikes, drones, and even Space exploration. The students were amazed to learn just how versatile 3D printing can be.
Of course, the highlight for many was seeing one of our 3D printers in action. We brought along a selection of sample prints and live-printed a few small items so the children could see the process first hand. There were lots of great questions ranging from "How long does it take to print a model?" to "Can you print chocolate?" (We don't have a machine for that… yet, but there is one out there)
It was truly inspiring to see the curiosity and creativity of the students. A few even told us they want to be engineers, designers, or inventors when they grow up, hopefully our visit helped spark that passion even more.
A big thank you to the staff and students at Ashby Fields for welcoming us so warmly. Events like this remind us why community engagement is such an important part of what we do. We’re excited to keep supporting local schools and helping young minds explore the world of digital manufacturing.
